Default When viewing and AR for purchase....

....what are the classic things to look for...?

I finally found an 02 MT6 with 48K in my area from a private party. Mileage is higher than I would like but Im checking it out anyhow.

I am pretty good a spotting body work but are there any classic mechanical problems that can be easily spotted?

Thanks,Adrian

Default Check the transmission from below to be sure it is not leaking...

The seal can weep fluid.

The displays can fade (not too important, but a bargaining chip...)

Take the time to check out EVERYTHING electric:
roll up and down all four windows. Listen to the stereo and use the fade/balance to check out that all speakers are working. Run the suspension up and down a few times to be sure nothing leaks. And start and stop it several times to be sure a CEL doesn't pop up.

They are pretty solid cars, and the 6-speed is a hoot!

cam seals, cv boots, let the car sit in level 1 for a while to see if the front air springs leak, bring a tire depth gauge and check the tires for even wear, make sure the 40K service was done, this includes plugs, and filters. If you can get a hold of a vag-com check for codes, drive the car and make sure there is no brake vibration at 60 mph.

If you look at the car and like it, ask to bring it to a good indi car mechanic and have them do a used car inspection. If the seller is honest they won't mind.

Thanks guys...it seems very clean except for a few small dings and scratches. No leaks I can see, all electronics seem to be working. Cycled the air suspension a few times, seemed to hold air no problem.

The guy seems very up front and honest. He also owns a Carrera 4, Newer Conv Benz and just purchased an ML500 for the wife who doesnt like the MT6 anymore.

I opened the oil cap and it looked brand new inside, no gunky buildup or yellowing. Carfax shows servicing like clock work except I dont see the 40k on there. He has all paperwork from dealer.

Apparently he is a Nuero-surgeon and the service manager's father was a patient of his, needless to say he received top service. This is his fourth Audi as well.

So all that said he is asking 27500 and comes with an extra set of rims (16") and snow tires. I dont recall the model.

It has ALL options except the Nav. and Solor Sun which I dont want anyhow. Currently has 48k miles.

KBB shows $26,800 so I think I am going to offerr $26,500 since it does have a few extra dents and dings.

The funny thing is as I was driving up to view it today my front wheel actually came OFF the hub like someone loosened all my lugs. All I could think was I drove the wheels off my friggen truck and time for the AR MT6!.

Opinions more than welcome...! Thanks again.

Default just obtained the service records and........

....looks like it has been in for service a few times for the CEL on and several times for brake issues....

This is a quick summary:

Delivered 5/2002
1/2003 Brake Chatter - R&R Front rotors & pads
4/2003 CEL on - R&R Mass Flow Meter
4/2003 Brake chatter - R&R front rotors & pads
5/2004 Brake Chatter - Front Rotor Replaced
7/2004 CEL on - Multipls Misfire DTC's
12/2004 CEL on - A26 Exhaust System - Emmision controls
11/2005 Car Shimmies on braking - Rear brake pads and rotors replaced.

Im thinking this guy is really hard on the brakes or doesnt downshift ever??

Is that somewhat normal on the CEL coming up?

Thanks,Adrian
