will this OBD II code reader work with our ARs?

To this day I haven't pulled the trigger on the Ross-tech due to price. This should work as a rudimentary/cheap alternative to pull codes correct? All I need is the ability to scan for codes while on road trips to triage the problem i.e. I can make it home, it can wait till next visit, need to tow etc.

BTW happy new year! I don't think I posted yet this year. A notable event recently was rolling over 100,000Kms this year! No picture though as my wife was driving at the time. I've got a major service coming up. I have to do my timing belt as I my ar turned 7 years at the end of the year.

vagcom does far more than pull codes.

An OBDII simply pulls generic engine codes. A vagcom allows you to query the engine on far more than federally mandated OBDII codes. Vagcom also allows you to communicate and sometimes reprogram the controller to each individual system on the car, through that same interface. We're talking alarm, radio, instrument cluster (resetting the service reminder, anyone?), suspension control, interior monitoring (again alarm), etc etc.

If you intend to keep this car more than, say, 2 years, get a vagcom.

The VagCom is deff the more capable.

You should have the Bentley to compliment it though so you can make more sense of the information.

Probably you can pull (some) codes with it but better get a $30 ebay cable

I read the ross-tech comparison chart and it makes sense to get vagcom

I don't know if the prices have come down but $249 for the KII-USB interface package is not that bad. Maybe I was scared off by the higher end $500+ packages in the past. Plus I have a laptop now which I didn't last time I was looking so its easier to justify now. Thanks.
