Default One major reason why Audi resigned from Rally - crowds are too hard to control and after

quite a few fatalities Audi finally pulled the plug. Still today, I don't understand why people do such stupid things like getting too close to a speedy rally car instead of selecting a safe place to watch......

Default Thanks for the link

These videos are very missleading for those who don't watch WRC. I only watched the first one and it seems pretty old. Today's 300HP rally cars don't compare to the old 600HP ones without today's safety features.

It was nice seeing BMW and AUDI in the video. It would be cool if they started participating again.

I have only been watching WRC for a few years as there was no coverage in Canada until speedvision showed up on cable. I love watching the races and can't believe what the drivers do with those cars. There is always a debate weather an F1 or a WRC driver is the best in the world and while I think they are both supermen, what a rally driver does on public mountain roads in rain/snow/ice/mud/dark/fog with no road saftey features to speak of is astounding. And all that with very few incidents! Yes they still crash and usually in a spectacular manner but there hasn't been a fatality since I have been watching. One driver (forget his name) had a broken pinky a few years ago which he was contemplating cutting off so it didn't impede his driving in future races!!!

Default From watching this, you would think that no one ever finishes. =)

Looks like most of these occured due to:

1. Bad pace notes
2. Driver not listening to the pace notes
3. Difficult section of the course and either 1 and/or 2.

Audi does compete indirectly in WRC through Skoda.

Default That is VW pushing the envelope by using some Audi experience, Audi as a company knows better ;-)

Audi didn't forget these days in the mid 80's when they knocked out a few spectators...and safety isn't much better today, just a but more tight and controlled, where it's possible.
Actually, IMHO the spectator should be the one signing the waiver ;-)...not the Driver and Navi.

Default LOL. All the fans signing waivers.

If you watch closely, sometimes you will see the Audi rings on the Skoda drivers driving suit. Doesn't appear to be every race though.
