My sentiments exactly. Hopefully the retrofit does not include a mandatory subscription service.
I just want the integrated v60 phone.
Not only do they know where you are, but know how you got there & how 'fast' you got there, etc. etc. It's already bad enough that cell phone's will allow your position to be triangulated within 30yds.
I'm not saying that OnStar will track this information, but who's to say someone else won't be able to tap into it an do so.
I've read of some Corvette C5 owners up in arms because the 2001+ models come with a black box which records everything, and insurance companies are using it against their owners. Now just add an 'always on' communication system to the mix. See where this is going?
I hope some of these 'convenience systems' in cars get enough people upset, that they will re-engineer them, or go the way of the automatic 'neck wrapping' seatbelts which had a life of about 4 years.

You're right on the nose...
...a friend of mine rented a car on the east coast and got charged extra -- the rental company used the OnStar to show he was (a) speeding and (b) going places he said he wouldn't. This sort of Big Brotherism just won't survive in the marketplace, I bet. HPH
