The one with the greatest benefit comes if you use the Efficiency Mode, but ONLY if you use it in conjunction with the Efficiency Program (Gear). The E gear is NOT on the stick shift, but can only be selected by going into Drive Modes and picking the Efficiency Mode. Note that, after doing that, if you use the Gear Shifter to change gears the car will only go into D/S for forward motion. You have to go back into Drive Modes and reselect Efficiency Mode again to go back to E Gear.

Great to know how to access the Efficiency Mode, thanks! What does the e-tron do in those DRIVE and GEAR modes to be more efficient in energy usage?

You can see it in MMI

The details I'm not sure about. When both E/E Mode/Program are active, you will notice more sluggish acceleration and responsiveness. I do know that the E gear is designed to work ONLY with the settings provided in the E Program.

When you guys drive on the freeway and enter the drive mode select screen, what suspension height does your car drive in when in efficiency mode? For me, on all modes, it's on level 3 no matter what speed.

Sounds like you may have inadvertently enabled the trailering suspension mode. It's a toggle somewhere in the MMI menu system. When enabled, it locks the ride height at level 3 and prevents it from adjusting dynamically with speed.

Ill check tomorrow but wouldn't some kind of icon show up on the instrument cluster?

I don't think so. The quickest check (apart from finding the setting itself deep down into the car settings menu) is to put the car in reverse and check the reversing camera screen. In trailer mode, the assist lines will not be there.

I have the factory hitch so trailer mode gets activated when I connect the trailer. When trailer mode is activated, I get a ding and a warning that the rear collision warning is disabled due to trailer mode. So it should be pretty obvious when trailer mode is activated.

Not that i know of. I have an aftermarket hitch and so I have to enable trailer mode manually. It's two toggles in totally different pages in the MMI. One for the trailer suspension mode. And another for disabling the rear cross traffic alert.

When I have trailer suspension mode enabled, there is no indication of it at all in the instrument cluster. And the guide lines still appear in reverse. Since it's not a factory hitch I presume there is additional coding that has to be done to enable the "full" trailering mode described by those with the factory towing package.
