I have a Viair air compressor that I use frequently on all of our vehicles and it has never blown a fuse - not even on the e-tron. I connect the hose to the tire before turning it on.
I bought this cordless compressor/inflator on amazon, it was delivered literally later that day, and it works perfectly. You set the desired pressure and it fills it to that setting, then shuts itself off. While I might try to get Audi to do something about the OEM compressor being garbage, this is a great workaround.
