My 2012 Audi S4 European Delivery
Finally... after 2.5 years of trying to get an ED going and getting the plans postponed for various reasons, I believe it's finally going to happen. A couple days ago I placed my order for a 2012 Audi S4 for European Delivery in September.
The thing that makes this a sweeter ED though is the fact that I managed to convince a buddy to go do the same. He was with me at the dealer and he place his ED order as well. So, we'll both pick up our cars the same day in Ingolstadt (hopefully). And we're taking our dads. This is going to be a boys-only, 15-day road trip in Germany and a bit of Austria, Italy and perhaps Switzerland (still can't believe my wife is letting me do this ). Can't wait!!!
Timeline:
5/5/2011: Order placed.
5/6/2011: Commission number at hand.
6/22/2011: Got my car's VIN from my SA. Still no welcome package.
7/6/2011: Welcome package finally arrives. Per Audi's web site, it was supposed to arrive 2-4 weeks after placing the order. It was more like 8 weeks.
7/15/2011: Sent filled Customer Information Form and documentation to the Audi European Delivery Program via e-mail. Requested delivery date of Sep 8th.
7/20/2011: Audi confirmed that the 8th is not possible and offered the 9th for the actual delivery. The 9th it is!
7/21/2011: Booked my tickets. We're doing SEA/CDG/MUC.
7/24/2011: Paid for the car and left a check to cover for the VAT. I should be able to get my VAT check back after I return.
Latest Status:
The car is paid for. Booked the tickets. Now need to close on where to sleep in a few nights while driving up the Romantic Road and then book the hotels.
45 days before the trip. Time is going fast!

Wow! This is exciting! I'd be super envious of your trip if I didn't happen to be the buddy going with you! ;-)
It will be an awesome trip! I can't wait!

Sorry for the delay. I was out on vacation for a couple of weeks.
These days there hasn't been anything exciting to see at Barrier or any other local dealer. We negotiated over the phone primarily.
We're planning on getting there in September as well, although the time frame has yet to be set. We're thinking most likely the second and third weeks of September.

European delivery
Just back from 12 days of great driving. Quartz grey metallic S4, prestige and drive select. Make sure you bring an Ipod or other MP3 device with you AND the Audi cable. Audi will NOT give you a cable, it is a "port installed" item. They will sell you the cable...for about $ 50.00!
Other than that Audi does an amazing job with European delivery. I put 1,500 miles on the car and passed a police BMW on the autobahn...at 125 mph....LEGALLY!
It is easy to drive in Germany, but you MUST know and follow the rules!
Also, gas costs about $ 9.00/gallon!
Laps at Nuerburgring are about $ 40.00/lap. Normal road rules apply, stay right, pass on left.
The weather in late May was completely beautiful with only 1 day of rain.

I'm getting a bit apprehensive here. This past Friday I completed 1 month from placing my order and I haven't heard anything from Audi of America. According to their FAQ I should have received the "welcome package" approximately 2 weeks after placing the order. :-\
