Default Why does this issue point to the turbo?

I'm curious as I have the exact same problem. I just don't get, if it is a straight mechanical problem like a turbo seal or something, why it would be so random or so specific as to be only at idle? No smoke on startup, acceleration or deceleration where you would think it should be if the turbo was faulty. It just doesn't make sense to me that the turbo is causing it. Is there a diagram that could explain the oil routing on the turbo? What changes at idle and why does it go away if you give it a couple quick revs? (sometimes it comes back shortly after, sometimes it doesn't)
Is it the drop in pressure at idle that causes the seal to leak slightly, if so, why would it be so random?
Color me not convinced....keep us posted.

Default Wow we really do have the exact problem... revs get rid of it for me too...

I have no exact explanation for it but the previous owner, my mechanic, and UrS6_SLC(below) all believe its the turbo with these symptoms. Ill ask my mechanic for a description when i pick the car up. Hopefully that will clear things up

Default bought the car as is, but i do have all the invoices for the parts, etc.. you can email me. as far..

as the comparisons in power etc... i really wouldnt know..
it's stated that this setup with 2b ecu is at 380hp at the crank?
it runs very nice... well, it will when i get it back tomorrow.
had a coilpack go and now found out that the turbo rebuild was shoddy.. which was why my smoke issues did not go away.
maybe i stated this to you prior? sorry, if that's the case.
good luck with yours.

Default Seals is a rough term for what keep the oil in the turbo

It's a piston ring.

The highest vacuum on the turbo is at del and idle, under these conditions the oil has the highest chance to get sucked into the compressor side of the turbo and then get burned in combustion. Once the compressor generates pressure the leakage would be in the oposite direction but since the turbo operates at 2-5 bar oil pressure the 1-18psig compressor pressure doesn't enter the oil.

FYI in radial compressor world the "pressure" behind the compressor is estimated to be 60% the exit pressure of the diffuser (what you read on the gage).
