Default Alternative to 1.8t Coil Packs

Brendon Rudack of Apikol emailed me regarding the recent post about the 2.0t FSI coils. Brendan says the coil PN is 07K 905 715 F - recently replaced a "D" PN (from a 2.0t FSI A4 or similar). Apparently, there is no trimming needed - coils are taller than the 1.8t units. In early trials against 1.8t coil packs (presumably 115R's or later), these 2.0t FSI coils outlasted the 1.8t coils in the same engine (had 3 1.8t and 2 2.0t FSI coils; 2 1.8t coils died, no 2.0t FSI coils died). (Brendan suspects the software is creating the problem - likely a very long dwell time - which seems to overheat these little puppies).

so, I can get 2.0T coilpacks from an FSI car (GLI, GTI, A4, Audi TT) and plug them directly into my harness which already has 115R coils?

and now the unfortunate-ish news:
$60/ea

so, to replace all 5, you're gonna end up paying $300. If you BOUGHT the coilpack harness from 034, it's $255... so $555 for VWAG coilpacks... or LS2 coilpacks from EFIExpress for $425.

Or you could do a Delphi D585 coil conversion.....

Plug wires from Mark Swanson $140
Delphi D585 coils @$15 ea $90 - readily available at any autoparts store if one dies
GM coil pigtails $40 - or cheaper possibly free at the junkyard
Various audi/VWplugs - junkyard dive = free/cheap
Bracket - depending on your imagination = free it's easy to recycle metal!

$140 + $90 + $40 = $270 so it's cheaper, PLUS the coils aren't on the engine where the heat can cook them AND if one dies you can get a replacement at just about any auto parts store.
I bought 6 and keep my spare in the care.

How long will it take to complete this conversion depends on you.

I took alot of time devising my coil bracket, and it's easy to duplicate. I spent alot more
time thinking about my bracket than building it, construction time was only a few hours.
The wiring harness took me ~ 2 hours on Sunday, it might have taken less time if I sourced used connectors that already had wires on them.

Default alternative to

so, the alternative to the alternative is the delphi d585 as opposed to the 2.0 and 1.8 conversion? I looked up the d585 and they are made for v8 trucks.

yes, they are.

The biggest thing I like about the LS2 conversion kit is the fact that the coils don't sit ON the motor.
