I don't know about interchangeability. But I did get an OEM rebuilt front driveshaft for my '95 S6 QT from: www.stopshopanddrive.com. Price was about $67 shipped net of core.

Go here:www.stopshopanddrive.com/epcvsoapimc.epc?cookieID=1EJ1BP8O11FU0RYS6C&dr illid=8&subcatid=801031@@Front+Drive&clien tid=stopshopanddrive
Scroll down to part # VW074655 "Crown." It says: "driveshaft rebuilt. $65.51." The search menu doesn't list S6 but I think the A6 item is interchangeable. Whatever. It worked fine in my car, and sure beat replacing just cv joint boots and grease for almost the same cost! Good luck.

how long have you had the axle? did it make any clicking sounds when you first installed it? and does that place give a warranty.

I've had the axle since August,'04. I only put the right side one in. It fit perfectly and made no clicking or any other kind of sound. I think the warranty was 90 days, but my memory is dim on that. I only did this because the inner boot was torn. But, as I noted, it was almost as cheap to replace the whole shaft as to replace the two boots. I'd suggest you phone them and talk with one of their reps about your needs.

Re: axle interchangability? and cheapest place to buy
i did speak with, but i'm just going back and forth between getting an axle from Raxles.com which actually uses NEW CV joints instead of "rebuilding" the damaged ones. Raxles is one of the few places that actually rebuilds axles, everyone else just mixs and matchs various bearings from different damaged joints until it works. This is what so-called rebuilt axles are. There is no way to truly rebuild a CV joint to OEM specs. For $100 more it is peace of mind.
