Default Catalytic Converter

I went to the required emmissions test and by the numbers I am thinking that I may need a catalytic converter. The question is what are the options for getting new converters that are not OEM.

Suggest you look on the various Audi parts for sale forums (not just here) and see if you can find a set of good OE cats. Otherwise, the various muffler chains will have something that can be bodged together with the OE exhaust system.

Or you could go turbo back from Stromung (which is the favoured replacement). 034 has something too.

I've been told (maybe it was Alex but I can't recall) that the OE exhaust was good up to 450HP with a better downpipe (assuming you did all the necessary work in front of that).

I've left mine alone and am glad I did for what it's worth.

There are also companies which re-core OEM converters. I had this done on my 1993 100 and the cost was about $350/cat compared to $900 for a new one from the dealer.

Are you in CA ? If so. you have to get it from Dealer ( CA state Law is not allow it to sell or buy used Catalyst that I believe.) and if not, you can pick any from another source. Good luck.

Once again I'm glad not to live in CA. I am interested in the recoring option for two reasons. First, is the price and second is that it would keep the system as close to original as possible without the $800 a piece price fron Audi.

Do you have info on teh recoring option you can send me or post here?
