Default Installed my 9011/9012 HIR bulbs yesterday, along with

new Euro lenses. I also cleaned the reflectors and projector lenses. Installing the 9011/9012 bulbs was very straightforward, the only modification required is removing a bit of material from the plastic tab opposite the connector. A few seconds work with a dremel moto-tool. I just removed enough material to match the tab on the 9005/6's I was replacing. Connectors hook up just like with the 9005/6.
Results:
The high beams are amazing, no further improvements necessary! The low beams are much improved, though with the new lenses and cleaning it is hard to know how much the bulbs alone helped . I spend some time adjusting the headlights since the very sharp cutoff was only 75-100 ft in front of the car. Road was black above the cut off, no noticable stray light to blind on coming drivers.
The cut off is so sharp with these headlights that I am going to try a set of 9011 high beams in the low beam projectors. I really don't think there will be any glare problems as long as the headlights are adjusted properly. I didn't notice any additional heat over the 9005/6 bulbs. Overall I am very happy with the mod, well worth it for the $ considering these bulbs are less expensive then PIAA superwhites.

Default That is what I call a controlled experiment. ;)

Glad your lighting has improved.

Default yea I know, didn't have time to do a "controlled experiment"

;-) Multiple changes were made in the name of maximizing time available. If I find some spare time I'll swap back in a 9006 in one of the headlights and then take a pic on a wall or something, course we've seen those pics at the bmw site posted here several times. I'll probably wait until I have another 9011 high beam bulb to swap into the low beam projector and then compare 9006 to 9012 to 9011.
