Any information on these or any other studded tires would be appreciated.
Are studded tires even recommended? I'd be using my winter tires between December and March, in northern NJ.
Otherwise, I might just go the Blizzak route or something.

Get the Hakka 2's, but don't get studded.
I had the Hakka 2's on my Coupe quattro last two seasons, but did not think the studs helps very much on hte majority of the road I rove on and the conditions. On high speed brake checks could lead to more slippage on dry pavement. Unless you will be doing a lot of driving to ski resorts and the sucks, you probably won't out-weight the benefits with the costs.

Loved mine
that I had on my CQ, but I lived out in the woods/mountains and actually needed the studs often.
On my S6 Avant I've got Blizzaks and they work well enough, especially now that I've moved into "town". In NJ, I'd expect a good winter tire, studless like the Blizzak or better yet, the new Nokian RSi, would work fine.

Nokian RSi

There a new Hakk' in town, and it's called the RSI...
... A friend just put a set on his 9-5 and they are ver cool. Quieter than my Hakk' 1's and better in the wet.
Let's face it, even way up here in NH, they use a good amount of salt, so eventually you get slushy roads then dry roads even in the dead of Winter. It's not exactly Finland where you run on glasre ice for 4 months out of the year.
Tha Hakk' 2's are great, but slanted more towards ice conditions than wet. From the picture I gather you're from Jersey, so yes you get snow, but I'm thinking it's more wet than icey.
I suspect "Yumy" might agree as when he purchased his Hakk' 2's, the RSI didn't exist. Oh, and as for Blizzaks, please don't. I like Bridgestone's in general, but for winter, they're not even in the same league as Nokian, and may not even be playing the same sport. When I purchased my '93 it came with a spare set of steel wheels and blizzak MZ-02's (more ice oriented than the WS-50's) and they were horrendous. I immediately put the Hakk' 1's on, and it was a night and day difference. When they wear out, I'm moving to RSI's.
Best of luck,
-Keith
