Default Not so much for protective purposes, but amazing for aerodynamics and sound insulation...

I got an extra 3-4 mpg out of mine, so did my pops. I agree with all about the PITA it is, but does wonders for air flow. As others suggested, helps keep the engine and tranny much cleaner. Engine's a little quieter as well w/ walkaround on pavement.

I have an extra in the garage I'll likely hold on to for the next car that doesn't have one.

I need one. Found one at the stealer for slightly less than $300. Would like to find a nice used one close to home. Shipping must be difficult?

Default I don't get the big fuss on removing it...

IMO it's pretty easy to remove...a couple of quick-release screws and it comes right off.

Default It is not the removal that people don't like, It is the reinstallation

When I do an oil change I spend more time putting the pan back on than I do on the entire rest of the job.
