Replaced hvac fan today.
Stealer had given me the wrong gasket. Other than that, not a difficult job.
Maybe I should have replaced heater core aswell ?!?

Was it all done from under the hood? Mine is starting to chirp
and I was dreading having to take the dash apart and the console out. Good news that it is an easy job. BTW the best way to get the correct parts from the stealer is to have them send you a fax of the parts that way you both know you are talking about the same part. They usually are happy to do that so they know you get the right part and they are not getting back parts that have to be sent back.

Would love to hear a write up to go with those pics :-)
What part numbers do you need for the gasket? is changing the gasket really necessary? how difficult is it to yank that unit out of there... looks sealed in place!
Last question, I wounder if it's possible to service the fan rather than replace it? anyone attempt it yet? (what did new fan cost you?)
Pictures help a lot, thanks for sharing!

Bentley makes it look kinda tough
<center><img src="http://pictureposter.audiworld.com/87663/remove_da_box.jpg"></center><p>- Attach engine support bridge 10-222 A/1 and heater claw 2075 to lip of heater box.
- Tighten nut on 10-222 A/1 until heater box is loosened.
- Remove tools.
- Remove heater box.
It may not be that hard to pull, but kinda an awkward position there at the back of the engine bay. Would probably be easier with the hood off, but maybe not that bad.

Removing hvac unit, important steps..
You don't need to rip out the center console or dash.
Right side:
Remove glove compartment, 5 bolts
Remove 1 vent tube that's in the way. Coming from hvac unit going up.
Remove blue/red connector to defrost/center flap. This is inside the center console but you get to it from the right side.
Left side:
Remove bolt that holds center console panel in place (footwell).
Wrap center console panel to the side and
remove the same vent tube as in right side.
Inside center console:
I removed the motor assembly for the defrost/center flap (don't know if this is necessary, that was the most difficult step).
Under hood:
Remove windscreen vipers, windscreen covers and viper assembly/motor.
Disconnect all el./vacum connections to hvac unit. Drain coolant. Disconnect coolant hooses at hvac unit. Loose rubber connection between condenser unit and hv(ac) unit.
Stick a piece of wood in front of hvac unit and press. The gasket/sealant will let loose eventually. Take it out front first.
Before installing, use a new seal/gasket, 431 819 225 (foam type).
The fan motor has plasic bearings. In my car, much of the bearing was gone. I got a new/used motor at a junkyard, paid $10. The bearings in this motor looked fine.
