Default Tis the Season.

So as I posted earlier, I broke a timing belt on my S4 and more than likely bet some intake valves. All this of course happened half way home from Virginia to Vermont. After a night in Maryland I am now home at my dad house in MA, with my S4 in the garage, head removed.

I would not be at home right now with out the generosity of many people.

The very nice woman at the information booth at the rest stop set me up with a phone book and a map of the area which allowed me to find a local shop and towing company.

Dave Tritt from EMP Towing, left his family's Holiday Turkey dinner to come out and tow my car. From when I placed the call, to the time he delivered my car to the shop, was only 1 hour. That is very fast (unheard of) from my experience. After dropping my car and finishing dinner with his family, he returned to the shop where I still was and delivered me a steaming hot plate of his families turkey dinner. Complete with potatoes, stuffing, gravy, veggies, carrot cake, cookies and a Snapple Ice Tea. I was blown away. It was a very nice thing for him and his family to do and I am very grateful. It was also QUITE delicious.

James Tomechko from Autowerkes let me keep my car on his lot for almost 24 hours even though I ended up not have them work on it. He also sat and talk about cars and politics with me for an hour or so while I waited for the second tow truck to arrive. They have a VERY nice shop and are wonderful people. I am thankful for their help.

My insurance company (Geico) came through for me in a big way. I pay for Emergency Roadside Assistance, a mere $17 a month, and this covered towing my car 380 miles for almost free. All I had to cover was the toll charges there and back which was bout $120. Not bad for a $2700 tow job. THANK YOU GEICO!

Last but not least I want to thank Steve Mills (UrScubed here on AW) for his openhanded generosity. After my first post about my troubles, Steve quickly contacted me and offered assistance. He happened to live a couple towns over and came and met me at the shop. He picked me up, (giving me the choice of a ride in his 85 URQ or the S6 Avant, I went for the Avant) put me up for the night, and brought me back to the shop in the morning. Had there been enough time he was offering to drive me to get some of the required parts also. Steve, you help was an unexpected and very welcome surprise and I thank you for everything you did for me. If there is ever anything I can do for you, do not hesitate to call. Thank you.

So with help from all these people I am home. I started work soon after getting home and had the head off in about 3 hours. I love these cars so much. Almost every came apart with no problems like it should. Broke the exhaust bolts from DP to CATS, no biggy, and the coolnt hose below the IM was so dry it shattered. Other than that no problems.
The timing belt broke because one of the bolts for the water pump backed out and clipped it despite Loctite.

The head is off now and the intake valves on cyl 3 are the only ones with marks from the pistons. The do not look bet visually, but who knows.

In a few hours, after some sleep, I am going to trying and find someone in MA to work the head for me.

Thanks again to everyone.

Default Glad you made it home with your car, and impressive that it's already apart...

Even if nothing's damaged, you did the right thing pulling the head and making sure. A valve that seals well enough for the car to run OK can still be bent enough to fail and drop into the cylinder in very few miles, and at that point you'd need a new motor.

Good luck getting it sorted and back on the road.

Default two valves aint bad considering

depending on cash flow just replace the two and seals and get her back together. Going for head work will be adding at least a grand..

I've notice that the Audi crew is a special group, especially the UrS owners. We may give each other crap on the forums but for the most part everyone is a stand up guy/gal.

Default That is what I am going to do I think. We'll see what the shop says when they get it.

I have been fascinated by the group of people on here since I became an active member. Great people, well educated and very knowledgeable about the cars. Most people are always willing to lend a hand too. It's a great community.
