Default What is this thingy?

I tried a search but didn't find anything. I just bought a 1992 S4 and I'm in the process of getting to know it. I haven't bought the manual yet as I'm still stinging from buying the one for my Coupe. I saw the thread on CD/DVD vs Print so now I'm leaning towards the CD/DVD. Anyhooo....on to the question...In the trunk of my car, on the left hand side, under a cover, there is a big cable with pins...almosl looks like an old style printer cable. Anyone have any idea what it is for? Diagnostics? It's not for the CD changer since it is on the right hand side.
Any clues greatly appreciated.
Thanks,
Bryan

Thanks guys, hadn't thought about the cell phone. My car has the curly-que phone attachment in the armrest but no phone. I guess I'll be ditching that set-up unless there is a write up somewhere that covers adapting a modern cell-phone to the old system.
Thanks Again,
Bryan
