I'm considering buying Q8 and so far I think it's a great car. Can current owner post their experiences with Rear Cross Traffic alert system?
Does it work well in parking lot situations? Does it detect pedestrians working behind the car well? Does it do anything when the car is in reverse but not moving?
Any info or opinions would be greatly appreciated!

In my experience, it works very well in parking lot scenarios. I can't speak to pedestrians. I can confirm that it does give you notifications on the screen when the car is in reverse and not moving.

Thanks! That's definitely a plus. When I test drove BMW X5, it was impossible to figure out if the system is working or not.

It saved me from a fender bender. I was parked in a space next to a tall hedge on the passenger side obscuring all vision to the right. Put the car in reverse and slowly backed up. Not only did I get an alert tone, but the brakes were automatically applied and stopped the car. "What the heck!!". I then saw the car passing at the right corner of the rear. Don't know about pedestrians.

Yes, it works for pedestrians.

It definitely works. I find it very helpful for crossing pedestrians and vehicles. It provides both audible and visual warnings in the rear view camera.
