Default Window Problem

Recently took delivery of my Q8 and it does a weird thing.

If the front windows are rolled down, when you open the door the window will roll up 3 inches. When you close the door it rolls back down. My dealer claims this is normal, but I see no logic in it and find it super annoying (takes away from the advantage of the frameless windows).

I understand the point that a rolled up window drops slightly when you open the door, but a window in the down position rolling up when opening the door makes no sense.

Tow questions:
1. Is this actually normal?
2. If it's normal, can this be disabled somehow?

Normal for me but I can’t tell you why the engineers did this. Unless by moving the window up there is less chance the window can displace when a door is slammed.

Yes it can be disabled with OBDeleven

The window rises slightly so that it is better supported laterally when the door closes. The frameless glass doesn't have the usual support that a frame provides.

Yes that is true , but I almost never shut hard the door I use soft close 90% of the time.

I'm sure you do. But if my mother was alive, she'd be slamming the door like it was a '55 Chevy sedan. Not all people go gently through this world and I'm sure Audi doesn't want to take a chance on claims. And since you mention soft close, I wish Audi's was as good as BMW's. Their system kicks in when the door is about .75" away from being closed. When we got this Audi, I didn't even realize it had that feature.

My BRZ was frameless and my buddies mk4 supra was frameless. We had both for several years and were daily drivers. Glass displacing from closing the door never happened. I don't see how this would even be an issue because even with a door with a frame it doesn't support the glass when it's all the way down. It's in the door exactly the same. The mechanism to roll the window down isn't any different cause there's no frame on the door. The coding to disable it is in the obdeleven thread.

I'm not advocating Audi's logic, just explaining why this feature exists.
