Never knew there was an R8 forum. How does the R8 compare to the GT2? Or is that apples and oranges?

Stephen, your posts are really exciting
There are very few people that have extensive experience with both the R8 and the 997tt. I have always rejected most journalists comments because they are hyping to sell their rags, but if you say that the turbo has been dethroned, man that is something.
Supposed to get my R8 next spring, but still undecide whether to hold onto the turbo until the v10 shows up.

I could not believe it either at first.
It took several days for this to sink in. I love the Porsche Turbo cars but never did i expect to find myself drawn to an Audi over them... Our R8 is in port and will be to the dealer by mid week after next.....I cant wait!
Alan I do not know where you live (I assume NJ) but if you are close please feel free to give me a call and I will get you some time in our R8. Either way give me a call and we can discuss this further.

R8 and Gallardo are daily drivers (I say this as someone who bought a Gallardo...)
... and drove it every day, including in the snow (with a spare set of wheels and snow tires). Having driven a 997 GT3 RS recently (and knowing the GT2 is more hardcore by a good margin), I can't imagine anyone comparing (let alone cross-shopping) a 911 GT2 of any generation with an R8 or Gallardo.
That having been said, I bought the first customer-ordered black Gallardo in the midwest (and first U.S. car ordered with spare wheels and snow tires -- every option except e.gear and glass engine cover)... and drove it daily in the winter in Chicago with no issues. Two years of trouble-free ownership point toward the R8 having a solid start at being a good daily driver.

Apples and Mangos, almost. GT2 is big fun, but the R8 is more compliant on public roads.
The 997tt is a good comparison, as is the C4S. But the R8 will still, per everything I've read, be more compliant and far easier to live with on imperfect public US roads.
I have a 997 C2S, and it's a lot of fun, but if the GT2 'adaptive mode', is like the C2S in sport mode (as I've read), then I can't really imagine a very long commute over most road types. And I really haven't found any other car 'too harsh' for my likeing - I'm not a 'wimp', and greatly prefer connectedness, responsiveness and fun over anything else.
All that said, the one long road trip I took my C2S on (San Diego to Monterey) was telling. While the car was great fun driving up Hwy 1 north of San Simeon, driving on Hwy 5 through LA left me a little less excited to do the trip again. And of course I was in 'adaptive' not 'sport' mode on the suspension. So, if the GT2's 'comfort' setting is like the C2S's 'sport' setting, the car will be great fun, but it will not be a better daily driver than the R8.
I will say, however, that Porsche has come a long way with their interiors, and both cars, even with Audi's undoubtedly phenomenal job on the R8 interior, are bound to be very nice places to sit and play...
