Q: So who's the target buyer for the R8?
#21
Yeah, you acquiring a domestic threw me for a loop...
Thankfully, it's something with character and history. Contact me when you get it. I'll arrange for a visit.
Back to the R8, I'm curious if the handling improved (compared to the Gallardo) with the longer wheelbase, magnetic ride, and lighter V8. I thought they would introduce the new "Valve Lift" system to create a performance difference with the other family members that use the current RS4 4.2.
The side blade element doesn't do it for me. But then again, I have not seen it in the flesh.
I'm telling you, V10 TT, or nothing at all.

Whahahahaha
"Is it the guy who has had an A4, then an S4, who says fvck it, I'm dating a stripper, getting a vasectomy, and buying an R8. You only live once."
This was hilarious
A potential buyer is me!
An ex S4 owner, looking for an exciting car from Audi, who does think m6 is too heavy, and thinks m button and 20 settings of transmission is stupid and out of sports car mentality, who does think 911 carrera s is the best bang for the money when configured with least options and around 90K possible, (yes the Porsche 911 CS is an amazing piece of machine a master piece, I would take that over m5, m6, e63, cls63 etc etc any day!) and does want to feel the magic of a light car with the best AWD system of Quattro available!
Yes that is the potential buyer of the r8! A car enthusiast!

Yep...
... I'm looking at March delivery, for my birthday.
Guess it'll be hiding under its car cover for a month or two with the bad winter they're predicting :-/

A4 owner here, too late for the vasectomy (2 kids), gift to self when I complete medical fellowship
not too mention I'm loyal to the brand and it's nice to have something understated

The only thing understated about it is that it's not a bright yellow Lamborghini...
Well I guess everything is relative. My original reply was going to be "the only thing understated about it is the badge."

hahah.. Not me but I guess it all depends on the price.
I think you have to answer what this car is trying to be first and what cars are out there that are similar in its class. Somehow I just don't see a huge market for this car unless the price starts at $80k which I highly doubt it would. The other option Audi should've done is launched the V10 only, asked for $125K base starting and claim that the R8 will only be in production for 4 years.

Lest we forget the papaya colored lambo
or some of the other exotic colors
IMO the R8 is more of an enthusiast's car...someone who follows motorsports and can appreciate the level of technology/ingenuity that went into this beast. The Gallardo does represent these qualities, but it just looks better parked.

How would the "only be in production 4 years" thing help?
Statistics from dealer groups show pretty strongly that people who buy $100k+ cars rarely keep a car longer than 24 months.
I've only kept a car more than two years once... and it's because there's no new allroad (yet)...
