99 Bose Concert to newer ....
I have a 99 A6 with the Bose concert system. The 99-1/2 and newer has the symphony. Is it just a simple swap out or am I going to have to hack and cut. Also, what is the newest factory system I can put in place of my Bose Concert?? TIA, Dave.

They're all a bit sh*t, and the Symphony is double DIN
Better off going aftermarket, rather than replacing the whole centre console and moving the climate control down. All that effort for no improvement in sound = not worth it.

No, the Concert is single DIN, the fascia is just a bit wider
You can get fascia adapters from Audi dealer to fill the gaps if replacing with aftermarket radio.
No you can't retain the pointless DIS display if going aftermarket. Just look slightly to the right and you'll see all the info displayed on the head unit.
