A4 radio Locked Out - Anyone know how to get it back?
My battery went dead and the SAFE feature came
on the radio in my 96 2.8 A4. I did the FM & DX
buttons, entered the code from the serial number
and key code card, and it just would not take
even after pressing the FM & DX buttons again.
Now, after two tries, it will not let me enter
the code even after the hour wait.
No, stop thinking I did it wrong I followed the
instructions to the "T". I confirmed what I
did with the dealer. The dealer pulled out the
radio to make sure the serial number and code
were correct. The codes are the same as on my card.
I asked the dealer and for what they claim it
will cost to fix, I might as well buy a new radio.
Is there some way around this?
You know it's great to have this radio safety
feature so that it does not get ripped off,
but heck it might as well have been stolen now
that I can't use it!
Feature or Farce? - You decide.<p>Dean D.

Re: A4 radio Locked Out - Anyone know how to get it back?
I am having the exact same problem with my '97 A6/(Audi Delta/Bose System)
I took it to the dealer and they advised me to disconnect the battery overnight and it would clear the SAFE code. Then push FM1/2 amd DX at the same time (Once only). The screen to re-enter the code should have come up. Alas, it did not. I still have the SAFE code in the window with ll in the lower right.
I returned to the dealer and wad told the only option was to replace the radio.
I cannot beleive there is not a way to clear the system.
Try the above mentioned ritual and see if it works for you. Let me know.
If in the mean time if anyone has any ideas, please let me know
