Default B6 Replacement Speakers

2002 B6, OEN non-bose audio system. Front passenger speakers are starting to show their age...some crackling and such. So I guess it may be time for some replacement drivers. The system overall meets our needs and I'm not looking to do major surgery and gut the car. Anyone know the sizes of the OEM speakers in all locations and how huge of a pain is it to install direct fit replacement speakers?

Thanks.

Default I replaced the factory speakers in my B6 A4 with 6.5"

they fit just fine. It's not a terrible pain in the ***. just get super efficient speakers. i'd recommend the Hertz ECX165

http://www.hertzaudiovideo.com/Doc/pdf_ecx165.pdf</a

Default there are no direct fit speakers, you need 6.5" components with 1" tweeters and adapter rings

The speakers standoff the inner door skin by about 40mm, so you need 2 x 18mm MDF rings glued together with a bigger 6mm ring to secure to the door skin. You can use the stock speaker as a template. Or an easier but more extreme route is to cut the original speaker out of its plastic adapter and mount the new units to the old one.
What you will need are some spare pop fasteners as the ones on the door card are designed to snap when you take it off. They are not expensive and your dealer should have them in stock. I'd buy about 8 of them just to be safe

Default I fitted Infinity Kappas, 5.25", using the stock speaker frames like "MacSub" described. ..

by cutting out the stock speakers, and using screws to mount the kappas on the stock frames, the cross over fitting inside the back of the plastic basket, secured with a dab of hot melt glue. Then, the fit is exactly like the stock speakers.

Default The infinity Kappas are a good idea if you are running a BOSE system

as the new Kappas are a 2ohm speaker.

Default I was concerned about that, I emailed Infinity, they replied that the 2 ohm impedance...

Kappa speakers powered by the Audi Symphony II+ HU, is not a problem. So far, they are doing fine.
