Default In-dash CD not working and changer on the fritz

Car: 2000 A6 2.7t
Problem: The In-dash CD player will play for about 10 minutes and then won't play any CDs anymore. It eventually gives the ERR sign and just gives up. It's almost like it overheats.
Also, just recently, the Changer has stopped playing CDs that I burned myself. Actually it will only play some of the CDs I have burned myself. It's wildly frustrating.
Solutions?:I'm considering swapping out all the hardware, but I know nothing about car audio and don't know how what the best course of action is.
Can you find used OEM headunits or am I pretty much looking at an all new stereo?
If I go the new unit route, any suggestions? I'm not a big audio guy, I just want something that works well.
Thanks in advance.

Default i'm testing a new changer this weekend...

no idea on the in-dash problem.
Looks like a new headunit is the answer... I'll probably look for someone who is parting out an A6. I don't want to blow a ton of cash, I just want the thing to work.

Default I have my old Sym II that I just took out of my '02 allroad and replaced with

a later Sym with Satellite. I'd be willing to part with the old one if you're interested.
Reason I'm reading this thread is because the '04 Sym II I just put in so that I could install XM also does the same thing your head unit is doing. But the one I pulled out worked perfectly.

Default Is the Sym II plug and play with my car?

I really know nothing about this stuff so I'm sorry if I sound like a moron.

What does the Symphony II have that mine didn't? Satelite Radio? Or Sat Nav?

If its anything other than pull the old one out and change the plugs and slide the new one in, I'd likely be headed for an install shop.

But, that said, I am very interested in your Sym II. I'd love to fix this stupid problem.

Default To be honest, not sure the difference between Sym and SymII. But I have to believe it's

plug and play. I'll try to find out if you're interested.
