Do i need an amp with a 6.5" sub?

take a look at the power rating for the speakers, ideally you want to get as close to the max
amount of power that the speaker can handle (itll sound best)
is the other speaker just not hooked up or is it just a passive woofer (no electricals, no magnets on the back of the speaker itself)

getting as close to the max as possible...
true an under-powered sub does souns bad but when you ride the edge of max power it doesnt sound the best and theres a lot of other risks that are involved

That you should be close to the RMS power rating.
I'd rather have Dynaudios on 30 watts than Infinitys on 150 watts.
In fact, I had Dynaudios in my board on 30 watts for a long time.
