Service just did it for me
Apparently, they now have to hook it up to a system called Gecko or Get-Go or something like that. This system connects directly to AoA and gets the code for the radio.

Just FYI - it's GeKo - don't know what it stands for but it's basically just a network computer database that matches radio serial numbers to radio codes. It only takes about 1 minute to find a code but they charge people a lot of coin for this simple procedure and it's all profit! The differing costs you hear about are probably because Audi corp doesn't charge for it - the dealers do. So, up to $100/min pure profit - I'm not sure even the best lawyer in the world charges that much in contrast. Unbelievable.
I wonder what would happen if one were to call into Audi corp with the serial number, vin, and somekind of proof that they were talking with the registered owner. I don't see why they couldn't do it.

CALL AOA and get them to give it to you. Call Scott at McKenna Audi (800)954-4869 or ask for John. Scott appears to be an enthousiast, as well as good friends with Mr. Audi Swaybar, Mark Hotchkiss. So..he might be willing to slip you a favor and get it to you gratis. Make sure you send him some business, because more'n likely you will get the right part the first time out, and at a good price, pretty close to ClairParts.com's GenAudi line.
