Please help!

I have a 1996 a6q with Bose and i would like to upgrade to a new head unit. I cannot afford to replace the speakers and amp. I was told by an installer that all he needed to do was to use a volkswagon wiring harness and it would be a fairly easy install. I had also heard from somebody else that it would require an amp interface from soundgate in order to keep the speakers and amp. Can anybody give me some advice on which person is more accurate? I am not an electronics expert and am afraid i am being ripped off. I dont want to end up worse off then i am now with my delta CC.
