Valentine1 Hardwiring Problem

Valentine1 Hardwiring Problem
I just got a 2001 Avant w/out a "homelink" system and w/out a sunroof and I went to hardwire my v1. I feel confident that I selected the right two wires and received the requisite 12v from a digital volt meter. Unfortunately, it's not turning on. Any experience out there with v1 installs? I appreciate it.

Which procedure were you following?
I followed the FAQ on the homepage that instructs you to use the fuse panel for power, and mine works great.
Also, have you used the cigarette adapter just to confirm that the unit works? Don't discount the possibility of a defective unit. Hate to see you tear apart the wiring and find out this is the culprit.

Re: Which procedure were you following?
Yeah, thanks for that option. I tried to use the dome light console for the 12v. I prefer doing that as I did on my BMW. I like having less wires running through my car. Of course I also like having a radar detector that actually has enough power to work...
On the other idea about whether the unit itself is busted, it's not. I feared that as well.
Thanks.

I'm amazed at how many people disregard the fuse box option.
It is by far the easiest way to hard-wire your V1, requires no permanent modifications (not even a wire-tap), and keeps all wires totally out of sight. What more could you possibly want?

With the FAQ, you've just got the one wire running along your headliner.
If you mount the unit up by your rearview, you can tuck the wire right up into the headliner with no problem, then run it down the A-pillar to the fuse box. Totally out of sight, takes like 10 minutes. Looks completely professional.
