Default Will an aftermarket head unit work with stock B5 98.5 Bose setup?

I've just gone through my second CD changer, and think its time to replace the head unit. I'm not looking for anything fancy, I just want a decent head unit that will play MP3 cd's. Can I run the stock Bose speakers (excluding the rear deck speakers, both of them are blown and disconnected) with an aftermarket head unit without any trouble? I know I'll have to get a DIN adapter. I did some searching but couldn't come up with anything conclusive. TIA

Default Try a Blau Bahamas - you might not need any adapter

In the pic it looks gray, but it is black with white lettering, the key backlights are red, the display can be red on black or black on red, and it uses DIN radio connectors. It has GALA, adjustable day and night brightness, 10-sec shock memory, and nice browsing.

We ordered a Key West and we liked it a lot. But the Bahamas has the reversible display and three lines. When the iPod comes out this will be way cool.

Default Thanks, but color matching isn't really my concern.

I've been browsing on Crutchfield to get an idea of whats out there, apparently the speakers and speaker wires need to be replaced if the head unit is changed. Can anyone shed any light on this?

Default If you go for Blaupunkt then it's just a straight swap, although you may need to

modify the power feed as Audi wire up perm live & switched live the wrong way round so you'll lose your presets when you take the keys out.
All other brands require an adapter harness to convert the mini ISO connection to the Bose amp to standard RCA's for the new HU.
Nothing else needs to be changed, but it's doubtful you'll get better sound quality as you're still using the Bose amps and speakers.
You will also need fascia adapters to fill the gaps either side of the HU and an antenna amp.

Default Nakamichi CD300 is nice...

but, I agree, Blaupunkt is a better choice for plug and play. I think i'm gonna order a KeyWest MP36.

Default Because when you take it out of the box it looks like a cheap Chinese knockoff of a CD-400

and it is... made in China, anyway. Looks like a Dual from the back.
