Default 1995 B5 1.8 Idling problems

After I accelerate, my revs occasionally fluctuate at idle from 500-800 RPM (at the traffic lights) causing major vibrations. It fluctuates for 3 secs then settles.

Can anybody help me out?

Thanks

Default My 98 B5 VW Passat (1.8T) does the same thing...

with the A/C on the idle quickly drops to about 700rpm then bounces back up. With the A/C off the idle slowly drops back to 850rpm (normal). So I took the car to the dealer and they said that was normal. They said it has something to do with the A/C compressor being turned off when the accelerator is pushed (I thought this only happened under WOT) but it turns back on when you release the accelerator. Personally I think it has something to do with the throttle body motor that controls the idle.

When you take your foot off the accelerator in my wife's Golf GTi (1.8T) it slowly drops back to idle speed regardless of whether the A/C is on or off. I can't see why this couldn't be done regardless of whether the A/C was turned on or off with the B5 1.8T.

Thanks for that! I'm intending to take it to the Audi dealer to get it checked out soon.

Try changing the spark plugs for a quick check

Either an air leak or non calibrated/faulty throttle body. Try to check for codes and do a throttle body adaptation.
