Default allroad: Removal of spots or stains on aluminum finish?

Lower door aluminum trim has what looks like either hard water spots or some sort of chemical stain (white-ish type stain over the aluminum). I've tried some mild cleaners to no avail.

Do I need to step up to a clay bar? It doesn't look like it has eaten into the finish, just on top. Will the clay bar do the trick?

Default Clay won't remove it. Some have had success with white vinegar.
