Default Scratch question

Ive noticed a scratch on the trunk of my car.. (I dont know from what) and Im trying to decide on a 3M product to remove it. The scratch is not that deep.. I can see it only when Im close up and at a certain angle ... Not my imagination.. definitly a scratch... is this a fine or medium scratch.. I can feel it when I run my fingers along the paint... any suggestions? Im trying to decide between 3M Imperial Hand Glaze and 3M Perfect-It hand glaze... thanks in advanced...

Default IHG is not gonna cut it.

I've got a few very fine scratches (kinda like hairline scratches) and have been working them out with Meguires Scratch-X and its working pretty well. Be very careful tho. Don't jump to something that is too aggressive if you're not getting the results you expect. With the Scratch-X it has taken several applications to the area to get the scratch out but that's better (IMO) then going to something that's really aggressive that could do some damage to your clearcoat.

Default Sounds the same

Looked like I had some small debris on my foam applicator and dragged it across the paint or someone leaned against the car. Very faint scratch, hairline thick, that could only be seen from certain angles and up close. The IHG didn't do anything to it, too deep to fill I guess. The Scratch-X after a couple applications has made it disappear completely.
There are some more aggressive 3M products (like their microfinishing glaze) that will cut the clearcoat down very quickly and make the scratch go away but that should be a last resort.
You should be able to find the Scratch-X locally.

Default Thanks for the advice... good to know before buying the IHG, but I might get it anyways..

the AW has washed my brain into getting IHG and Blitz... your cars look so damn nice... hopefully my light silver will come out just as good

Default Wait....

If a scratch is more than what IHG is likely to handle, try One Grand Special Touch polish. I've just started using this stuff. Works great on imperfections like scratches, spots and other imperfections. Then follow with Omega Glaze or IHG. Then Blitz.

Autosupermart carries it, but they're mistakenly using an image of Omega Glaze for the Special Touch listing. But you can still read what it says there.

Special Touch at autosupermart.com

Default here is what to do

First, accept that you can never truly remove the scratch but should strive to "hide" it.

Start with a mildly abrasive product like the 3M perfect it, working it at right angles from the scratch.

Next apply a non abrasive polish like P21S paintwork cleanser

Then (and no comments from the peanut gallery)apply several coats of Imperial hand glaze to "fill in" the area

Finally, apply several coats of wax.

This works great for light colored cars like silver, which I assume yours is...
