washing a new white bmw 3 series... noticed

no, i doubt it is a defect....
bmws have a texture to their paint. it isn't like Audis or MB. it looks like high and low spots, but it is normal from what i've been told by numerous BMWers. bmw has a certain method of applying paint--it's almost impossible to replicate it outside of a plant or VPC.
you might want to try some good polishes from Menzerna to take out some of the highs--i think it might look better. you don't want to take down the clear.
my last 5 had this look, my current 5 seems a bit better, and my 3 isn't too bad. all of them do have a degree of orange peel.
on of the key ways to tell if a BMW has been repainted is the car won't have the orange peel look.

nope, that's how most bmw colors are now, unless they have signif improved...
their eco friendly paints. I'm all for it overall, but yeah sometimes the colors up close are horrible.
