Default Brakes failed on snowy hill - Audi Q5 2021 WARNING

I was driving down a hill with 1/2 inch of snow and as I began to gently apply the brake at the top of the hill, the pedal went straight to the floor as there was no resistance at all. There was no sound, or feeling to indicate the usual grinding you feel when braking on snow. The brakes were just gone. Then, to make matters worse, the steering locked and I could not turn the wheel. I slid 150 feet downhill into a ditch. Audi sent an engineer to inspect the car and they have offered no explanation. Does anyone have any ideas why the brakes went out completely and why the steering then locked? Literally 1/2 inch of snow. We did not slip on ice. The brakes were suddenly gone and the car was silent. Terrifying.
