Default 2006 S4 FYI

40/60 Torsen debuts
First few months of production for MY 2006 S4 manual sedan/Avant will have the 50/50 torsen, and then later on with 40/60. Good thing is, you can tell the 40/60 car very easily because Canadian A4/S4 models finally get satellite radio prep as of June 2005 production = dolphin roof antenna is the giveaway for sedan/Avant. S4 Cabriolet is also clear cut: 2006 S4 Cab manuals are 40/60, because it continues to fall under normal model year production intervals.
40/60 will not be on all future Audi models. Since the rear-biased 40/60 quattro system is performance oriented, one can surmise that quite possibly, future performance models would be likely candidates........More word later on which ones.....

Default Understanding the RS and the S series only

Besides, to really take advantage of the 40/60 you have to be driving at your maximum and the full potential of the car, which should really never be happening on the streets anyways.

Default ???????????

With that way of thinking, why would anyone bother to improve the performance of a car at all...

Default That was one of the opinions from another forum

But really, 99% of the drivers in quattros probably cannot take advantage of the 40/60 torque split in every day street driving. If you're on the track probably yes. Initial reviews of the RS4 claims that the handling is much more neutral when compared to the S4 on the same track and conditions - not sure if it's because of the revised suspension or updated torsen, or a combination of the two.

In any rate, this is probably done to get Audi's handling closer to BMWs... but I don't think it will ever match BMW's until they figure out a way to get the weight distribution more to 50/50 which means getting the engine behind the front axle instead.

Default Keeping with that train of thought...

99% of quattro drivers really never use regular quattro to it's potential. An S version @ 60/40 split, would be another selling feature over the std version A4.

Default no one will buy S4 because of 40/60 split quattro...

people will buy it for the whole package, part of which this split is...

sure, it is good to improve with every model, but it will not be that decisive reason why someone will buy audi over say bmw...

give me weight distribution of 50/50 any day over 40/60 split quattro... PLEASE??????
