I wouldn't count on that - it's part of their job & in some places, they can get an official
reprimand for not being in court. Also, the court will often schedule a few of the officer's trials for the same day - so he might need to be in court for 2 or 3 other cases on the same day anyway & would be less likely to skip it because he just didn't feel like going...but you can always hope!
Also, if you've never been to court before, then it's quite an ordeal - very formal & quite intimidating for such a minor infraction. One thing that you can do for now is send it back & plead not guilty - that will just extend your time to think about it - you can look into it more over the next couple of months & decide what you want to do - even if you just pay it then, it's still no different on your record than paying it now.

One more question ... What area in Ontario?
I just remembered a guy from Pointts told me that the court backlog in Toronto is about 14 months right now & that 14 months is the time that they use for unreasonable delay...if you didn't get to trial within the 14 months, you might get off just on that.
Disclaimer: I don't really know how cut-and-dry that it - I'll skip the details of why I know this, but in Perth (near Ottawa), where I'm fighting my ticket, the prosecutor said that their standard for dismissal because of unreasonable delay is 6 months - I find it hard to believe that it would be different in different parts of the province - it should be the same laws and legal precedents shouldn't it?

It depends on the ticket
Because if you're 50 over (as in 110 in a 60) you're insurance WILL go up. Also it depends whether you're in a community/school zone or not. MTO does not report your ticket to the insurance company if no points are taken, ergo the insurance has no way of knowing unless (like somebody else said here) they're specifically looking for it. The problem is only if you change companies and they ask you if you got any tickets, or claims for that matter, in the past. I guess you wouldn't lie in that case, would you?
