Haha...when you click on the link to enlarge the picture of the ZR1, it goes to a story
about the V12 TDI R8...what a coincidence.
Now, start the debate on
ZR1 vs. R8...or 911 Turbo or F430.<ul><li><a href="http://www.leftlanenews.com/chevrolet-corvette-zr1.html">Zed Are One</a></li></ul>

Depends what else is in your stable and how you want people to see you.
911 for me.
I think any car connoisseur with a supercar stable needs to first have a car with a lot of motorsports pedigree. So if I have no other supercar in my garage, it's the 911 Turbo, no doubt. Just seems pretentious to go from 0-Ferrari in 1 day, kinda "hey lookit me, I just bought the flashiest car I could find!"
Same with the R8.
I have no doubt the ZR1 is awesome. But the Mmmericans need to do something about their interiors. This one is hopelessly hideous. I think Hyundai makes better interiors.

I'm not a Vette connoseur (sp?), so I won't defend it with my last breath, but interior and
a bit of "fast & furious" cues aside, it's one hell of a beast. 11 second 1/4 mile!
I think the argument vs a 911 is similar to the argument with an R8 vs a 911. If you can only have one true all around monster, most would probably choose a 911 over an R8, a Vette, or an F430.
Aside from that, the performance must be astounding....11 second 1/4 mile!

IMO they did that for 2 reasons.
<center><img src="http://pictureposter.audiworld.com/111139/img_1777.jpg"></center><p>1. To scare the crap out or you, which in your case may not be a bad thing.
2. They built this car to exceed 200 mph.
For the average driver, 4wd is far safer, especially when the hp exceeds 400.
Have you ever been in a Viper, that is a scary ride. I had the pleasure spending an afternoon at Dunnville with a red one at a lapping day. Apparently his hp was in excess of 600, I had no problem staying with him, because his car was prone to oversteer.

To be totally honest, people need to pick what suits their character and ignore the rest.
We drove everything under the sun, trying to duplicate the feeling of driving an Alfa. When we finally (against great resistance) drove the Ferrari F355, we felt we had found the ultimate Alfa. Ferraristi would die of mortification to hear that and do (when we tell them), but it's true.
So ignore labels and pick what resonates with you, regardless of badge or reputation.

Hm. Social considerations aside, I'd definitely be in an R8.
Funny thing is I think the F430 suits my character more, and the 911 is more beautiful. So I have no idea why I choose the Audi.
