Newsflash, new Mini Cooper S makes the A3 and the VW GTI look pretty plain
it is possible you might beat that Mini in a red light drag but the first corner will leave the GTI a$$ backwards in the dust and the A3 will just slide off the road forwards.
You owe it to yourself to test drive the newest Min Cooper S before wasting any more money on those German sleds.
(And, no, the new Mini and the new new Mini are not German just because a German company owns them, they are British and it shows, truly awesome suspension.)

It isn't just the suspension... look at the overhang (or lack of it)
lots of reasons it will outhandle those cars as well as many others on the road.
Im just not ready to argue with you.

I'm sure it's awesome, almost bought a Mk1 MCS if you can recall...
but for the money, the GTI beats the Mini and the A3 2.0t hands down. It may possess only 90% of the handling prowess of the MCS, but it's still pretty damn excellent compare to any other fwd on the market. Oh and it's faster, and my friends can get in the back seat through their own doors and actually sit comfortably for long trips, and still have a large trunk full of stuff. Try that in the Mini.
Now it'd be a different story if the Mini is intended as a 2nd or 3rd fun car...

Must have been a poor Mini driver. The Mini was/is a much better driver's car than the old Golf...
And A3 are/were.
I'm pretty sure in that category car, the Mini was the best handling car. One just as to look at how the Mini dominates autocross events in the USA to see how good it is.
I can't speak about how the new Mini VS the new Golf/A3 will do, time will tell.

I don't know about you or anyone else, but I look for more than "how fast I can take a corner" or ..
"how quickly I can get from 0 to 100" when I look at a car.
