which didn't make sense, unless they think I was protecting fresh paint with the tape. As soon as I told them it's used to keep bugs and rock chips off the paint, they all say it's a great idea!

Yup, best way to make your car with an out-of-town plate sticks out ever more! Thank goodness the places I stayed in between the drives were fairly safe. If I was driving in NJ, my car would have been jacked the first night!
