Default So much for my Rieger rear. I always hated ABS plastic body kits and now it is even more so...

Look at what happened on the way to work this morning at 04:00 AM. It was pouring cats and dogs out with very heavy rains at times. I don't know exactly where it happened but I hit several pools of standing waters at fairly high speeds and I guess the water got splashed back under the car and exited at the rear in droves taking out part of the Rieger rear valence. When I opened the trunk at work to get my briefcase, I noticed it. It was hanging by the wire mesh. So I guess my not more than a few weeks old paint and install job is coming off again to get repaired and repainted.

Oh well I plan on modifying the rear bottom part of the car to include some kind of rear underneath tray/body panel to keep most of the air and foreign objects from hitting the Rieger.

Isn't ABS better than fiberglass?

Default Damn dude.. that sucks - chase em for a new one.

If there's no obvious damage from something hard that hit it... I'd say its defective and should be replaced!

Default Yes it is , but depend on which point, fiber is most easy to fix, but easy to crack, ABS more flexie

flexible, and more solid material, but hard to fix

Default i disagree with that statement

Case in point, what are most sailboats made out of? What are most canoes made out of? These items have to be STRONG.

Fiberglass if done properly, is stronger then plastic. However, it is not flexible at all. That is a disadvantage for low impacts as it won't give, and that causes the paint to chip easily, or the kit will take the hit and cause the surrounding items to bend such as the metal quarter panels the kit is mounted to. Also fiberglass won't really mark from stones, however because it won't give, the point where the stones hit, the paint will probably break off.

A hard hit or a hit at speed, plastic or fiberglass, its going to get destroyed anyway. Then if you factor in that we are in Canada, when its winter, that plastic is now rigid and going to crack just as easily anyway.

The way I see it, get a kit based on whatever style you like as really, the only reason why you're doing it is for looks. And it can't hurt if its a known name/maker of kits for that car. Fiberglass, plastic...advantages and dis of both. But really, you're kitting because of style, so that should be priority.
