Default Is it Time for a New Oil Formulation?

STF, and wanted some Canadian insights.

My 1.8t will be clicking over to 160,000 km in a short while, and has had nothing but a steady diet of Mobil-1 5W-30 since about 70,000 km. (It had been getting Syntec 5W-50 prior to this...)

Should I consider a different weight of oil for this aging motor? Or will the 5W-30 be perfectly OK? It's due its next change in a few weeks, and thought I'd ask you guys what you thought.

Does anyone have any strong opinions?

Default Engine wear is a gradual process. Unless there is something wrong with your car (ie burning oil

because your rings or cylinder walls are worn or something like that) then there is no real reason to switch oil viscosity just because you are at 160,000 kms.
