Default Wheel vibration/shake at 110 to 120 kilometres per hour...

Put on my summer wheels a couple days ago and I'm getting shake in the front end at around that speed. Any reason why these would be imbalanced from just being stored during the winter?

Do I have to balance these things every summer? Never had to before.

Default Were they lying flat?

Is there a flat spot on the tire, depending on how you store them it could be misshaped.

Are the wheels bent? I don't balance each year, but if you've got the shakes its worth doing.

Default I can't see them having a flat spot just under their own weight though...

is that possible? Attached to a car of course....

Check pressures, take em off and clean hubs and remount them, try rotating front to back, and if all else fails get em balanced and get an alignment on your car.

You're alignment might be out of spec, and the symptoms exaggerated by your higher performance summers.

Default They were stored flat with one wheel on top of each other.

Cardboard and foam seperating each wheel and the floor.

I don't think they are bent, but I'll have to check.

Default I'll have to do the pressure check and remount them, etc.

I'll try the things you suggested.

Default Before you rebalance them, make sure all lug bolts are torqued properly (89 ft-lb)...

and tire pressure (when cold) are adjusted properly. I run 38 - 40 psi on my stock 17" Blotenzas.

I store my wheels/tires the same as you, never had a problem.

If the problem persists, then definitely try rebalance the tires

Default Doubt that they have a flat spot

I stored my winters/summers one year with it vertically, no problems. Now my winters - they definetly needed to be rebalanced due to a couple of wheel weights that seemed to have freed themselves over the summer.

Default Yes, they are. I didn't have this problem when I took them off last fall...

My winters were fine too before I them off.

Default $10 says you put the fronts on the rear and the rears on the fronts ;)

they were probably out of balance last year, but it wasn't as pronounced with them on the rear.

3 things are possible:
a) weights fell off sometime between when you had them balanced last year, and when you put them on this year

b) erm, got bent?

c) they were never truly balanced in the first place...
