anyone playing GT4 online yet?

it is, but a lot of people are taking it online w/ xlink software.
the game out of the box is only 'lan-enabled', just like the original Halo was for xbox. That doesn't mean you can't play it online using 3rd party software, which is what xlink is.
Basically, it is simple tunneling like you thought earlier. Your PS2 connects to your PC(via router/hub/switch, etc). Your friend, at his house in another city/state/country connects his PS2 to his PC. Your two PC's connect to each other online, and forward everything from the PS2's. The result is the two game systems think they're in the same room on a LAN (the current PS2 games are not online, only LAN capable), even though they're on opposite sides of the world. You can even chat on the PC (voice and text) and play on the console.
I'm going to start messing around with it a lil tonight. they worked on everything first and then were 'supposed' to get to the online sector.
'The plan is now to launch Gran Turismo 4 with offline play this year, while a new Gran Turismo game with online play is provisionally scheduled for 2005 at some point. We don't know much about the new title as yet, although we'd speculate that it might be a budget-priced release, similar to the post-GT3 Gran Turismo Concept.'
oh and you have to have a stupid epson printer, unless you want to run 3rd party software for that bs.
