Default F1 race was fun but what a freackin' nightmare coming out and driving back.

Holy ****! I don't think I'm doing this again, and I hope they move the race to some place else.

They escorted people from the speedway without any signs or direction as to where we were going. I don't know Indy and have no Nav(is everyone supposed to have one?). I ended up driving for nearly 1/2hr before I found 465 to take me to 65....but then the real nightmare started. Thousands of people on the road, all going the same way and quite a few of them all of a sudden turned into F1 racers and turned the I-65 into a track...I was stunned by stupidity. I also saw 2 accidents first hand, one involving a guy in a truck running some small SUV off the road. Everyone seemed to be ok, but WTF?!?

It took me 5 hrs to get back on the NS Chicago.

I was happy to see Hamilton win again!

Default

For events like that, you might also consider staying the night.

Default yah, I think I learned my lesson....though coming back from RA couple of times was

perfectly fine. Historic races and ALMS. Go figure.

Default had no problem at all getting there or leaving...

Parked in someones driveway for 20 bucks( just a block or 2 behind the main lots off of Georgetown). Once we got back to the car, less than a 5 minute walk from the corner 6 terrace seats, it took us less than 10 minutes to get to I465, and we rolled up on the house(Oak Park) about 4:45. worst traffic was near the border @ I65 and I94. Probably averaged 90 mph coming up I 65, was following a 996 and a E55 AMG, which kept the speeds up. I was worried about all the horror stories about the drive home, and was very surprised we diddn't run into any issues.

Default Been that way since the first year. Simple solution. Take I-74W to Urbana, then take I-57N to

the Chicago area. We hit I-80 by Joliet, then East to 294N to get to the NW suburbs.

It's 40 miles longer overall, but there is NO traffic (ever that I've been on it over 15 years of driving it) and it's a far more relaxing, generally cop free, rural drive.

We left at 5pm Chicago time and pulled into Mundelein (45 min Northwest of Chicago) at 9:15pm in our 70ft semi/photo truck. We'd have been in the city by 8:30, or in the Naperville area by 8:00. Had we been in a car, it'd been 15-30 minutes shorter.

Drove this route back from USGP the last three years.

Seriously, absolutely no race traffic (though we did hook up with four Penske Racing Semi's who were also dodging the traffic and know the same route), period.

Default Same here, parked for free...

on the side streets north of the track. 10 minute walk to the track. Was on 65 north within 15 minutes, traffic was moving at 70+. Worst traffic was the Indiana toll booth and the Skyway toll.

Great weekend of racing. Still prefer the track at RA, but F1 cars are the best.

Default rookies ....

you park for free at the K-Mart on 38th and walk to the north entrance and afterwards you are only 500 feet from an I65 entrance ramp
