Stranded in Chicago...
well was on my way to my friends place in Libertyville Friday night when just outside of Joliet my TCU and ECU apparently stopped talking. Bummer for two reasons (1) car went into "limp" mode and will only do 65-ish (2) while I was up here I was going to have chips installed by Dubwerks. The guys there were awesome and suggested not even installing the chip until I got the situation worked out. The TCU would nota take any codes. They suggested to check out a dealer and see if they could force-code it. Went to McGrath bright and early this morning they they couldn't get it to take codes either. Said I needed to START with replacing the TCU which they estimated at $2000. Went to car-part.com and found on in St. Louis (oddly enough' cause that is where I am from) for $150. Was going to try and find one here, but looks like I may "limp" home and pick it up there.
SUCKS.
But hey, saw lots of nice A4's up here.

Sorry to hear.
The communication problem with the TCU could also be a bad or intermittant connection or cable.
Why don't you just have them ship the TCU from St. Louis. It's only a day away via UPS if it goues out later today.

'cause...
I gotta get home and get back to work. Already "wasted" another day trying to get it worked out. The most WICKEDLY ironic thing about the whole thing is this, the place that has the TCU is about, oh, 8 BLOCKS FROM MY APARTMENT!!

Yup.
I think that anyone with a B5 S4 that's had it for awhile knows that feeling.
This one was an "old badge" model in the very rare silver color. The driver was standing alongside the car looking very pissed.
