Default B! - would it be possible to have a selectable resolution?

that way when uploading you could select 640, 800 or 1024 as the max rez. it would simplify things and help keep the forum neat and tidy

Default That would be the idea

I may even make it so you can go back and dynamically resize the images retroactively too.

Originally, the idea of resizing the images was four fold:
1) People uploaded ginormous images that were not sensible to actually display on a normal screen.
2) Disk space wasn't exactly cheap.
3) Bandwidth wasn't cheap either.
4) People uploaded images that were in obscure formats that were very space inefficient (like BMP)

2 isn't really a problem nowadays. Disk is cheaper than it was 5 years ago when I first create the picture poster. We would need to buy some more disk, but we could easily expand the amount of disk people could use to upload images.

So I'm thinking we may just store the original image as uploaded from the user, then resize the image to size the user wants (which is their choice depending on the size they want and how much disk space they want used from their quota) and a thumbnail.

You could then theoretically go back to the picture poster admin, resize the image again and it'll just use up more or less space in your quota.
