Delete Function Comments...

...The new delete function is cool, but I'm not sure I like the fact that when a post is deleted any subsequent replies become hidden to other users. Would it be possible to have the deleted post just show as "(DELETED)" but maintain any replies below it for all to see. Otherwise valuable information in the replies could be lost/unaccessible (hidden) when users delete posts above.

Generally, replies aren't valuable at that point

without the context of the parent post. Not to mention people may quote the original message in their reply, thusly defeating the purpose of the deleted post.

Perhaps I should make the parent message still available to anyone who replied to it?

I'd vote against that one, Johannes. If I am going to go to the trouble of deleting a post, it means that I've done something stupid enough that I don't want <b>anyone</b> to see it anymore.

As far as losing "valuable" followups, I think that anyone who replies to any post should just keep in mind that the poster who originated the post being replied to has the power over all of its children; that's just the way it is. If the information is so valuable, it should probably be posted separately. Just MHO.
