erratic behavior of thread tracking

erratic behavior of thread tracking
Some times it works and tracked threads stay at the top of page 1, and sometimes my tracked threads drop to their normal sequence by date.
The dropped threads have "ut" next to them, so at least the threads think they are tracked...
Am I doing something wrong?
