How does this happen when I'm tracking the thread?

I've noticed this happening lately. This is just an example. Below is a screenshot of a thread I'm tracking. You can see on the right that I'm tracking the thread that begins with the text "getting dressed...". The reply "underwear,..." is unread, but the thread does not show up at the top or with a blue background. My only reasoning behind this is because I refreshed at about the same time as the response was posted. Your thoughts on why this is happening would be appreciated.

your guess is most likely the reason. I see this happening all of the time as well

If you finish reading all of the posts in a thread, the hit to go back to the mail forum page and a new post appears, it is because it got posted while you were refreshing.

Race condition

We check if a thread has been updated first, then we get all of the threads to display on the page. If it happens to have had a new post made in between that first check and the second one, then it'll bold and italicize the subject like that.

I've added it to my TODO list to fix that.
